That movie makes me cry so hard.

SLR Photography 101

I’ve been taking my new Canon EOS Rebel XSi practically everywhere with me, and taking pictures of practically everything. I’m in love with the image quality on this thing. Below are some examples of pictures I’ve taken, using Photoshop only to tweak the contrast or color balance.

As you can see, they’re all pretty nice, but I feel I’m not getting nearly the full potential I can from this camera. I’ve mostly been using the automatic settings, especially the “flash off” one, because I still haven’t been bothered to read through the instruction manual to learn about all the extra settings.

Last night I got some tips from my awesome friend Kayla, whose photography is nothing short of brilliant. She admitted to me that it took her a few months before she got used to the manual setting on her camera, which made me feel a little better about my own noob-ness. I seriously want to learn as much about this camera as I can, so I’d really appreciate tips and tricks from other SLR users out there!

I personally believe that even skilled photographers need time getting the masterpieces they want every time they use a new camera. It’s a question of individuality in each camera that the photographer needs to get acquainted with. You are off to a good start, and I cannot wait to see your progress over the next few months :-)

Your pictures look great so far! I have an XSi and I love it but I’m still learning too. I think that it definitely takes time, practice, and patience to truly grasp photography. I’m sure that you will be able to, though! Keep it up!

The photographs look great. I bought a Canon point and shoot last year and I’ve only just started to use the manual settings. It took me a while to understand how the shutter speed and aperture settings work. :) Looking forward to more photos from you! :)

Oddly, I think she may be the same Penelope I once had the pleasure of knowing–actually, she was my pup for a brief time. I’m glad she looks happy.

I’m so jealous of you! I’ve wanted that damn camera for so long now…one day, I swear it’ll be mine too haha I can’t wait to see more of your photos especially of your dog since I got a Corgi as well in November :)
