I love my penpal

I got a package from my penpal today. She sent me a cute little birthday card and some interesting sweets from Japan. I love when she sends me stuff, because that’s more to add to the pile of things I will eventually be able to translate when I learn more Japanese. The first food-related item she sent me was this bag of individually-wrapped shortbread type cookies with raisins in them. I don’t really like raisins, but these were good. There was nothing in English on that package so I have no idea what they really were.

The second thing is this box that has a picture of what looks like tiramisu on it, and then a picture of what looks like a cream-filled dark red rice ball pastry thing. The only thing in English on it says “bourbon,” and when you open the packaging, that’s exactly what it smells like. They’re good though. I guess it’s a sugary bourbon-flavored rice cake with this thick icing filling, and it’s much tastier than it looks. I’d link to the URL that’s printed on the back of the box, but it’s not currently a working link.

Anyway, other than hearing from my penpal, I’m in a ridiculously shitty mood today. My birthday is in 6 days, and I have this nagging hunch that if I have a party/get together, I will end up not having fun.

LOL, get CJ’s brother to come over for your birthday. That would most certainly be a laugh riot. *death* And um, your birthday is on a Wednesday (which sucks because I’m working), but I will totally meet up with you afterward and we can do fun things. I also think it’s retarded that I just wrote that because you probably knew I would do that anyway. Let me know what’s going on!

That’s cool! If you don’t mind sharing, how did you find your pen pals? (I think you have two?) I would like to correspond with a pen pal overseas but am not sure how to go about with it.

Take pictures on your birthday! No party = what to blog about? :-)

Wow, I hate shitty birthdays. I’m gonna hit my knees and pray you have a great birthday!

You were brave to try the stuff you couldn’t read.

Those sound like really nice gifts. I cannot keep in contact with penpals.
