Banana Creme Pie
So Eric and I got to talking about pastries and deserts, and I asked him what kind of pies he liked. He wasn’t thrilled about apple pie or cherry pie, but confessed that he really likes custard-type pies. One of his favorites is coconut creme pie, but mostly he loves banana creme pie.
Thus starts my mission to make a fantastic banana creme pie. I found a ridiculously easy recipe on AllRecipes that I’m going to modify a bit. I have all my ingredients, but I’m waiting on a mixing bowl, a pie pan, and whipped cream. There aren’t any actual grocery stores around my neighborhood (just delis and Target), and not only does Target not sell pre-made pie crusts, but they don’t even sell aluminum pie tins. A major WTF at that! Eric had to stop by his job, so he’s going to bring home the required items on his way.
Anyway, here’s the recipe (my version):
Ingredients:
- 4 bananas
- 9-inch pie crust
- 2 1/2 cups cold milk
- 2 packages of instant vanilla pudding mix
- Whipped topping
Prepare your pie crust (or just unwrap it if it’s premade). Peel three bananas and slice them. Line the bottom of the pie crust with about half of the banana slices. Pour the milk into a medium bowl and add the pudding mix. Whisk mixture until thoroughly combined, then fold in 1/2 cup of whipped topping and add 4th banana (make sure it’s mixed in well). Pour into the pie crust. Chill at least 3 hours or until pudding is set, and then line the top of the pie with the remaining banana slices and top off with whipped topping.

That sounds utterly delicious! We need more recipes on the internet like this. I shall make a note of it and try it out myself some time!
Mmm… custard pie sounds sooo good right now! Did your recipe turn out fairly decent?
I love banana creme pie! I make mine with vanilla wafers instead of a pie crust, though. I fill the bottom of the pie tin with layer of wafers, and I put the bananas in with the pudding before pouring a layer of pudding over the wafers. I throw in a few more wafers, add some more pudding and top it off with some whipped topping. I grind some wafers and sprinkle them on top of the whipped topping to make it look purdy. The wafers tend to get soft, and it tastes soo good!
That looks awesomely delicious. I must try it for myself!
I’ve never had banana creme pie! or cherry pie! only apple pie.. we’re more savoury pie people down here in NZ (eg. mince & cheese pie, chicken pie).
