That movie makes me cry so hard.

The Spice Girls

(This post is my response to an entry posted on Amanda’s site.)

Ah, the Spice Girls. Along with the Backstreet Boys, they were the musical staple of my preteen life. But unlike the Backstreet Boys, who were meant for ogling over and hanging posters of over your bed, you could go over your friend’s house and dress up like the Spice Girls. Which is what my handful of friends and I used to often do.

My favorite, as far as I can remember, had always been Scary Spice. I think I might have favored Posh a bit towards the beginning, but during our dress-up sessions I was always voted as Scary, and she quickly grew on me. I’m not exactly sure why, but I really loved her style. Maybe it was the big hair with the crazy little buns that looked like cat ears. Maybe it was because she was always wearing animal print. Maybe it was because her nickname was “scary.”

My sister and I used to choreograph dances to the songs and perform them for our family members. My aunt has a tape somewhere of us dancing to “Spice Up Your Life.” I hope that I never see that tape again.

I can’t listen to the song “Viva Forever” without crying. I will never, ever tell a soul why, because the reason is RIDICULOUS and retarded.

I was kind of devastated when Geri left the Spice Girls. To me, that was them “breaking up.” I was excited to hear that they’re going to do a reunion tour, but I probably won’t go see them. Finances aside, I never saw them in concert when I was younger. I lived vicariously through the CDs, the Spice World movie, and the collectible lollipops with the stickers inside that the ice cream truck used to sell.

I’m all grown up now. They’re all grown up now. It would be a different experience, and I don’t want to tarnish that preteen fangirl that still lives inside of me deep down somewhere.

Aw, I know what you mean about their songs touching you deeply. I still can’t listen to “2 Become 1″ without being reminded of someone…

Thank you so much for participating in this, I love that people are showing their Spice love!

We used to choreograph dance moves to the fast Spice Girls dance songs too! Hahaha :D And I loved Backstreet Boys the same time I love SG and we used to have wars like who were better performers, BsB or SG then of course SG would win because of the whole girl power thing. Oh memories..

It would be a different experience, and I don’t want to tarnish that preteen fangirl that still lives inside of me deep down somewhere.

AMEN! My taste in music now may be totally different, but I still have the Spice Girl in me.

My favorite was baby spice… I just really loved her, and I used to collect bubblegum that had the spice girls tatoo and stickers in there. I collected mostly of Baby Spice though. Backstreet boys were my obsession since elementary, and I still don’t think I’ve let them go yet. You know, I still love listening to Viva Forever as well, though I don’t cry, it makes my heart ache… it’s still one of the best songs out there. Everytime I go karaoke, I always have to sing Spice Girls.

Oh gosh, Spice Girls = <3. Haha I remember thinking that Sporty Spice was like… the coolest person on the planet, but eventually I turned to Geri, because… I don’t know, haha its hard to explain why everyone liked whatever Spice Girl they liked. The Spice World Movie was the shizang! Haha I still really like watching it -hangs head in shame- just cause its so corny and funny lol.
